The McAllen Public Library is very proud to become a Community Partner with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. What this means is that you can come to any of the library’s three branches to apply for any part of the Texas Benefits program, which includes:
At each McAllen library location, a computer will be reserved especially for patrons applying for these benefits. You can come in during any time that the library is open. Library staff is not able to assist with actually filling out the application, but we will soon have trained Navigators from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission who will be able to help with this. Another announcement will be made when the Navigator assistance is available. In the meantime, you can call toll-free to 2-1-1 or 1-877-541-7905 for assistance. After you pick a language, press 2. Staff can help you Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Another health benefit which the library would like to make our patrons aware of is NeedyMeds
. This is a website that organizes and provides links to applications for prescription medication payment assistance. Most of these assistance programs are sponsored by the drug companies, and the applications are for specific medications. That is why there are hundreds of applications, and NeedyMeds
helps you navigate these applications and figure out which plan is right for you.
The McAllen Public Library is very proud to be able to offer these important assistance programs to the public. Through our partnerships with Cognosante and other organizations last year, we were able to help hundreds of families register for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. We are now very glad to be able to provide assistance with applications for people who might not have been able to afford regular health insurance. It is part of our continuing commitment to improve the lives of members of our community.
