Honoring Our Veterans

The veteran community is very important to McAllen Public Library.  This month, we are showing support to our veterans through a lineup of four events that will take place at the Main Library throughout the month of May.  We hope you will join us as we celebrate our veterans!

Memory BoxesFullSizeRender – May 11th, 6:30pm.  Do you have a special memento of a loved one that you treasure?  Keepsake memory boxes are a great way to collect those tokens, trinkets, and treasures and remember someone important in your life.

 

 

490681-840x420Wordsmith Wednesdays–Honoring Veterans – May 18th, 10:00am.  Valley authors Fred Rendon, Jr. and Sue Place share stories and poems that relate to veterans’ experiences and issues, as well as lauding veterans and their service.

 

 

TVC_tribtalkVeterans Outreach – May 25th, 10:00am to 1:00pm.  Visit McAllen Vet Center’s Mobile Unit, and over a dozen other local organizations that provide services and benefits to our veteran community.  Some of the participating organizations include Veterans Outreach, Heroes on the Water, Family Endeavors, and Operation Murph.  Get connected with these organizations and more!

 

remembering-our-military-veterans-the-difference-between-memorial-day-veterans-day-1-638Valley Roots Series–Remembering Those Who Served – May 25th, 7:00pm.  Join us for an evening of remembrance, honoring those who served in our armed forces.  Learn about several Rio Grande Valley veterans as their family members recount their stories.
